Final reflation

My self-reflection

  • This course was complicated little bit not because it was hard but because we didn’t take it seriously.

  • In the beginning, community services is an important thing in the life and we must to volunteer and do good things for the community, in this course we faced some problems like when we put plan that we will volunteer in food control and then we put second plan after that the third one that’s why our group wasn’t helpful, but it was also the supervisor problem he was laze and didn’t help us and always he ignore us, finally we volunteered in the higher college of technology with a two parts of volunteering the first one was volunteering in the library, reception and student services, the second part was searching for a recycling company to bring recycle bins to the college for recycling papers.

  • Through my volunteer experience in the library and the reception I learned that we must to help the library staff by cleaning the computers after finishing from it and return the books, also updating Java day after day, also communicate with students and visitors nicely. The Second part of the volunteering plan was the recycling project and I learned that we must to put papers in the recycle bin and don’t burn it or throw it in a normal garbage because papers is trees and without trees we will not live.

  • This course teach me that I must to choose the right person to volunteer with and the right supervisor to help me for volunteering, and also it shows me that volunteering is not only for people who didn’t work, even if you don’t have time you must to volunteer and help people by anything, and people also will help you when you need some help because we are an Integrated community.

Daily post 12-5-2014

Date (12-5-2014 / Monday)
Time (10.30-2.30)

Last week as I said we search for companies and we got the proposal from Zone waste papers, but it will take a while to get the agreement from the director and the management. So we asked the student council to get things going.

They asked us in return to look for the most efficient places for the bins. Because they only agreed to give us 30 bins, and we asked people and faculty of where are the places that will fit them properly. so we looked around the college and went to the places that they asked us to see. and we found out that the library is the most place that use paper, after that the J Block and Then F Block.

It was rough day because we were half hour under the sun asking people about the good places.

2-Janitor talking the papers to a normal trash.

3-papers thrown in the library

In the third day me and my friends work together in the other half of our plan, so today we was searching for a recycling companies to come to our college. we search for many companies from google and we contact them. The first company "Zaytoono recycling" and their conditions were 6 by 6 metal case, free weekly visit. The second one was "Mahy Khoory recycling" and their conditions were also 6 by 6 metal case, fast agreement and free monthly visit , and before a day we need to call them to pick up the paper boxes. The last company Saif found it and its called "Zone Waste" were their conditions as Saif said:" were big boxes spread in the college, free if over 500 kg, monthly or weekly visit". We showed these companies to the student council and they agreed with "Zone Waste" company so Saif contact them and he agreed to them. Today's experience was hard because it was difficult to find companies that we want but it is great to do what you want.

Date:27/4/2014 Sunday
 4 Hours (11.15-3.30)

We were confused  where and when we will volunteer after the problem that we faced, after searching for a place Mrs.Elliana helped us by giving each one something to do in the college. Me and Abdulla Jamal volunteered in the library, firstly we start cleaning the computers from the student files like word and power-point files and after that we restart it, and this thing took us only 1 hour. Secondly , we start doing a complected thing ; Updating Java in the whole library computers and then restart it and that took us one and half hours. Finally, After talking our lunch we start organizing the books in alphabetical order.
It was a good experience and i like it because it was helpful so we saved the staff allot of work.

Exercise 7

LSH 2903 – Community Service – Learning /  Exercise #7
Charity and Volunteering in the UAE - Information and Activities
The UAE is famous for its hospitality and the desire to give one's time and efforts to help other people.
When I travel to other countries and talk to people about my job, the students and the UAE in general, one constant thought I hear repeated is that the UAE is a very hospitable country and its people are very generous. People in the UAE often want to do things to help others, whether it is other UAE Nationals or people from other countries.
Within the UAE we see so many examples of people volunteering and giving to charities to try and help others. People do this out of the simple goodness of their hearts and to try to help other people to have a better life than they have at the moment. An obvious example is TAKATOF which promotes the idea of volunteering within the country.
Just last semester (March 2013) we had a major charity fundraising week when students, staff and teachers of ADMC raised 25,000 Dh to donate to a school in a poor village Cambodia.
The UAE is also very strongly represented in the international field of assisting people from other countries. It may be through the Red Crescent that people donate money, time or skills to try and help others. So much of the time when we hear about various international problems, the UAE is one of the first to step forward and provide assistance.
